FAQ’s About the Signature City Sightseeing Trolley Tour

Take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions about the Signature City Sightseeing Louisville Trolley Tour experience:

What’s included in the ticket price?

Your ticket includes chauffered transportation aboard the historic Old Fashioned Express trolley, 90 minutes of expert narration from a knowledgeable local guide, and views of more than 30 of Louisville’s most iconic landmarks and neighborhoods. Guide gratuity is not included but is appreciated.

What’s not included?

Admission to any attractions or museums along the route, food and beverages, hotel pickup and drop-off (unless you’re staying at the Galt House Hotel, where the tour begins and ends), and gratuity for your guide and driver (though it is always appreciated).

Is there a restroom break during the tour?

The Signature City Tour is a 90-minute fully seated experience with no scheduled stops or restroom breaks. We recommend using the restroom before boarding.

What will I see on the Signature City Tour?

You’ll roll past more than 30 of Louisville’s most iconic landmarks, including Churchill Downs, the Victorian mansions of Old Louisville, the Ohio River waterfront, NuLu, Museum Row, Whiskey Row, the University of Louisville campus, the Speed Art Museum, and the Highlands and Cherokee Park (designed by the same landscape architect behind New York’s Central Park).

How much walking is involved?

None at all! The Signature City Tour is entirely aboard our gorgeous historic trolley. The only steps involved are boarding and de-boarding at the start and end of the tour, making this one of the most accessible sightseeing experiences in Louisville.

Is the trolley air conditioned or heated?

Typically, yes. Most of our vehicles are fully climate controlled with both A/C and heating. On rare occasions where a non-climate-controlled trolley is in service, or when we get lucky and the weather is just right, we’ll keep you comfortable with hand fans and fresh air through our large arched windows.

Is the trolley tour family friendly?

Absolutely! The Signature City Tour is a wonderful experience for all ages and we welcome little ones to join us. Children’s tickets (ages 3–14) are offered at a discounted rate, and must be purchased alongside at least one adult ticket. Children 2 and under ride free and do not require a ticket, but must remain seated on a parent’s lap if the trolley is fully booked (if it’s not, spread out all you like!).

If you bring a stroller on board, it will need to fold down in order to fit on the trolley. If the tour is fully booked, you may need to store it under your seat.

Important note: much like a school bus, our trolley is not equipped with seatbelts, so we’ll need your help keeping little ones seated or holding on tight with 3 points of contact while the trolley is in motion.

Can I bring food and drinks?

You’re welcome to bring not-super-messy snacks and water bottles on board. No beverages other than water are permitted during public tours. Please keep things tidy and use the onboard trash can with any food items you bring on board. Our trolleys are cleaned after every tour, but they are historic, and certain things are much trickier to clean than others. We appreciate your help keeping our trolleys clean!

Is the trolley tour handicap accessible?

We can accommodate one wheelchair per tour with advance notice. If we have a heads up, we will ensure the trolley is equipped with our wheelchair lift for your visit. Wheelchair users will be able to remain seated in their wheelchairs during the tour and will not need to transfer to a seat to board.

Without advance notice, or for non-wheelchair guests with handicap needs: Please note that boarding requires climbing a couple of steps, and you will need to transfer to a seat. If you are unable to transfer, please contact us before booking so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

We cannot guarantee wheelchair accommodation without advance notice, and are unable to store non-folding scooters, walkers, strollers or wheelchairs onboard (though we are always happy to store anything that we can fit onboard!)

Is the tour route always the same?

Almost always. That said, we may occasionally need to alter our route due to road closures, traffic, city events, and other situations beyond our control that make our typical route inaccessible. In these rare cases, we do our best to find alternate attractions to feature during our tour.

Where does the Signature City Sightseeing Trolley Tour depart from?

Look for the Old Fashioned Express trolley out front – you can’t miss it! See the photo below to help you find is. Please arrive 5–10 minutes before your tour’s start time.
